Fabrics go through various processing stages to reach the stage of final product. Some significant stages are mentioned.

The fibres sticking in the goods are burnt off. |
| Desizing |
The size materials are removed from warp yarns in woven fabrics. |
| Scouring |
The fabrics are cleaned up in this process. |
| Bleaching |
The fabrics are bleached to make them whiter as well as lighter. |
| Mercerizing |
The fabrics are immersed in alkali. It make them shining, strong, shrink free, sketch free and durable. |
| Finishing |
The fabrics are treated with chemicals in order to enhance the quality. |
